White House Initiates Diplomatic Efforts to End Ukraine War
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The White House has intensified diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine war. Following a recent high-level meeting with European leaders, a plan has been devised to facilitate direct talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The meeting, held at the White House on Monday, included Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.
The main agenda of the meeting was to establish a security guarantee for Ukraine. Discussions focused on how European nations, in coordination with the United States, could support Ukraine.
Following the White House meeting, the US President initiated a telephone conversation with Russian President Putin to prepare for a meeting with Zelenskyy. US officials have expressed hope that this bilateral meeting could pave the way for a trilateral meeting involving the United States, Russia, and Ukraine.
Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff are coordinating this diplomatic effort. This is considered a significant initial step toward ending the war that has been ongoing for nearly four years.
