Nepal Red Cross Society’s Newly Formed Ad-Hoc Committee Assumes Office
Kathmandu: The office bearers of the newly formed ad-hoc committee of the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) today assumed their positions at the NRCS Central Office.
According to the Nepal Government’s decision on B.S. Shrawan 9, 2082, an ad-hoc committee has been formed from among the general members of the Nepal Red Cross Society to manage its operations until a new executive committee is formed, as per Sub-section (2) of Section 20 of the Social Welfare Act, 2049.
The nine-member committee, chaired by Binod Kumar Sharma, includes Hari Baral as Vice-President, Min Bahadur Malla as General Secretary, Lokdarshan Shrestha as Treasurer, and Prof. Dr. Haridarshan Shrestha, Surya Kumari Shrestha, Kanti Rajbhandari, Dr. Gangadhar Adhikari, and Hemraj Ojha as members.
The letter from the Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens states that this ad-hoc committee is tasked with resolving the current situation within the Nepal Red Cross Society by amending the NRCS Statute in accordance with the Constitution of Nepal, prevailing laws, and the principles of the international Red Cross movement. Its responsibility is to form a new executive committee within three months, as per the organization’s statute and Sub-section (3) of Section 20 of the Social Welfare Act, 2049.
Today, while administering the oath to the newly formed ad-hoc committee at the Ministry, Nawal Kishore Sah Sudi, Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, requested and extended best wishes for them to work in a way that upholds the high reputation of the Nepal Red Cross as a common humanitarian organization, both domestically and internationally.
Upon assuming office, Binod Kumar Sharma, Chairman of the newly formed ad-hoc committee of the Nepal Red Cross Society, pledged to fulfill the responsibilities within the timeframe given by the government, with the cooperation and support of all stakeholders.
The Compliance and Mediation Committee (CMC) of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has expressed satisfaction in a letter regarding the Nepal Government’s formation of the Nepal Red Cross ad-hoc committee with the responsibility of amending the NRCS Statute and conducting elections. It has also requested cooperation to help the committee carry out its assigned duties.
The employees of NRCS welcomed the newly formed ad-hoc committee at the Central Office and informed them about the current status of the organization.
